Fireworks near Wylie, TX
Wylie is one of the closer suburbs to our store, even though it isn't on I-30. The best route skips the interstate for most of the trip and cuts across the back roads through Royse City.
Wylie also spreads across three counties, Collin, Dallas and Rockwall, around the south end of Lake Lavon. The city's rule is the same everywhere inside its limits. Private fireworks aren't allowed, and Wylie Fire Rescue extends that to 1,000 feet past the city line.
Driving from Wylie
It's about 35 minutes and 23 miles from downtown Wylie. Take Highway 78 south for about 5 miles, then pick up SH 205 and John King Boulevard to FM 552. Head east on FM 552, a country stretch, until it ends at Highway 66. Go into Royse City, turn right on FM 548 (Elm Street), and merge onto I-30 east.
From Royse City it's only about 6 miles on the interstate. Take Exit 83 for FM 1565 and follow the frontage road to 5159 I-30, Caddo Mills. Expect slower going through Royse City at rush hour.
Wylie fireworks rules
Banned inside city limits
Wylie Fire Rescue says private fireworks are illegal within Wylie city limits and within 1,000 feet of them, and should not be used or transported there.
Not confirmed (city fire rescue guidance; code section not reached). Source: City of Wylie Fire Rescue: Fourth of July, checked 2026-10-20.
According to Wylie Fire Rescue, private fireworks are illegal within Wylie city limits and within 1,000 feet of them. The department's guidance also says they shouldn't be used or transported there. It recommends going to a professional display instead. We could not confirm the code section number, so check with the city before you buy.
The rule covers all three county pieces of Wylie. If you live outside the city but near it, the 1,000-foot buffer may still reach you. See /texas-fireworks-laws/ for the statewide rules.
Where you can legally shoot
Inside Wylie and its 1,000-foot buffer, don't. Residents who shoot their own usually go well outside city limits to private property where the owner has said yes. Make sure that spot isn't inside another city's limits or its enforcement area too.
The county where you shoot decides the rest. Collin, Dallas and Rockwall counties can each limit certain fireworks during drought, and burn bans can apply. Look at /texas-fireworks-laws/collin/, /texas-fireworks-laws/dallas/ or /texas-fireworks-laws/rockwall/ before you go. Don't assume a park or Lake Lavon shoreline is OK. Wylie's own July 4th show at Founders Park is the easy legal choice.
