Fireworks near Terrell, TX

Terrell is on I-20 and US 80, south and east of us, so the drive isn't a straight interstate run. The quickest way cuts north on SH 205 through open Kaufman and Rockwall county country to reach I-30 at Rockwall.

The City of Terrell has adopted the regional fire code amendments, which bar fireworks inside city limits except for approved displays. The Chamber of Commerce puts on a July 4th show at the municipal airport, so there's a legal way to watch close to home.

Driving from Terrell

Plan on about 40 minutes and 30 miles. From downtown Terrell, take Moore Avenue (US 80) west for a mile and a half, then exit onto SH 205 north. SH 205 runs about 13 miles up to the south side of Rockwall. Turn right on John King Boulevard and follow it to I-30.

Get on I-30 east and go about 12 miles past Fate and Royse City. Take Exit 83 for FM 1565 and follow the frontage road to 5159 I-30, Caddo Mills. Allow extra time on SH 205 near Rockwall at rush hour.

Where you can legally shoot

Not inside Terrell. People from the Terrell area who shoot their own usually do it in unincorporated Kaufman County, on private land with the owner's permission, and well away from any city's limits.

Kaufman County can restrict certain fireworks in unincorporated areas when drought conditions exist. The county's fireworks page says that generally, if outdoor burning is allowed, fireworks are allowed too. Call the burn-ban line at 469-595-8899 before you go, and see /texas-fireworks-laws/kaufman/. Don't treat parks or public land as fair game unless an official source says so.
