Fireworks near Fate, TX
Fate has grown fast along the I-30 corridor, with new neighborhoods spreading north from the interstate between Rockwall and Royse City. For Fate families, we are a short run east on the same highway most of you already drive every day.
Fate does not allow fireworks in the city, and with so much of the area now built up, finding a legal place to shoot takes some planning. This page lays out the drive, the city rule, and what to check with Rockwall County.
Driving from Fate
From the center of Fate it is about 15 minutes and 10 or 11 miles. Take FM 551 (William E. Crawford Avenue) down to I-30 and get on eastbound. Stay on the interstate about 9 miles. You will pass through Royse City, then cross into Hunt County. Take Exit 83 for FM 1565 and the store is on the frontage road at 5159 I-30.
If you live on the east side of Fate, you may find it quicker to reach I-30 farther east. Either way, you want I-30 east to Exit 83. Map and directions are on /visit/.
Fate fireworks rules
Banned inside city limits
Fate Code Sec. 16-92 makes it unlawful to sell, possess, use, fire, discharge or explode fireworks within the corporate limits of the city. A 2022 ordinance (O-2022-038) added an affirmative defense to prosecution, whose wording was not reviewed.

Fate bans fireworks. Section 16-92 of the Fate Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to sell, possess, use, fire, discharge or explode any fireworks within the corporate limits of the city. The city amended the section in 2022 to add an affirmative defense, but that does not make backyard fireworks legal, so do not count on it. Fireworks are also listed among the prohibited acts in city parks. A fireworks display at an event of more than 75 people needs a city special event permit.
Fate is in Rockwall County. The county handles drought orders and burn bans for unincorporated land, and a drought finding can cancel the season. See https://www.rockwallcountytexas.com/ and /texas-fireworks-laws/rockwall/, plus the statewide rules at /texas-fireworks-laws/.
Where you can legally shoot
The general rule is private land outside Fate's city limits, outside any neighboring city's limits or buffer zone, with the owner's permission, and only when Rockwall County has no drought order or burn ban. Fate shares borders with Rockwall and Royse City, and both of those cities extend their bans past their own limits. That leaves less legal ground close to home than you might think. Confirm the land is unincorporated before you go.
Fate's own fireworks come at Celebrate Fate, the city's community festival, which is held in September and has ended with a fireworks finale.
