Fireworks near Mesquite, TX

Mesquite sits right on I-30, which makes the trip out to our store about as simple as a drive gets. You get on the interstate, point east, and get off at Exit 83 past Royse City.

Before you load up, know that Mesquite is one of the stricter cities in the area. The city doesn't allow fireworks inside city limits, and its police and fire crews patrol for them around July 4th and New Year's Eve. This page covers the drive, what the city says, and where people from Mesquite usually go to shoot legally.

Driving from Mesquite

Plan on about 40 minutes and 30 miles from central Mesquite. From the Belt Line Road area, head north to Broadway Boulevard and take the on-ramp to I-30 east. From there it's one long stretch of interstate, about 24 miles, through Garland, Rowlett, over Lake Ray Hubbard, and past Rockwall and Royse City.

Take Exit 83 for FM 1565. The store is on the I-30 frontage road at 5159 I-30, Caddo Mills. Traffic on I-30 around Rockwall can slow things down on holiday weekends, so give yourself extra time in late December and early July.

The City of Mesquite states that it is illegal to possess or use fireworks within Mesquite city limits. That covers having them, not only lighting them. The city's Celebrate Safely page lists up to $835 in city fines and court costs for discharging illegal fireworks and up to $585 for possession. Older city notices point to Title 4, Chapter 6 of the Mesquite City Code.

The city takes reports at its police non-emergency line and runs extra patrols on the big holidays. Read the city's page yourself before you buy, since cities can change their rules. See /texas-fireworks-laws/ for the statewide rules.

Where you can legally shoot

Inside Mesquite, the answer is nowhere. Most Mesquite families who shoot fireworks do it outside city limits, on private land, with the owner's permission. Keep in mind that Texas cities can enforce fireworks rules up to 5,000 feet past their limits, so being just over the city line may not be far enough.

County rules matter too. Dallas County can restrict certain fireworks during drought, and a county burn ban can change what's allowed. Wherever you end up, check that county's orders first. Our /texas-fireworks-laws/dallas/ page is a starting point. Never use a public park or school property unless an official source says it's allowed.

Before you come
