Fireworks near Greenville, TX

Greenville is the Hunt County seat and the biggest town on our stretch of I-30, so a lot of our customers come from here. The trip is about as simple as it gets. You get on the interstate heading toward Dallas and get off before you reach Royse City.

The harder part is figuring out where you can legally light what you buy. Greenville bans fireworks in town and a good distance past the city limits. Below is the route, the city rule with its code section, and the alternatives, including the city's own July 4th show.

Driving from Greenville

From most of Greenville it is about 20 minutes and 14 miles. Get on I-30 westbound, the stretch through town signed as Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway. From the north side of town, US 69 / US 380 (Joe Ramsey Boulevard) feeds right onto it. Stay on I-30 west for about 10 miles. You will pass the Caddo Mills exits first. Take the exit toward FM 1565 (Exit 83) and follow the frontage road to the store at 5159 I-30.

On the way home it is the same road east. Directions and a map are on our Visit page at /visit/.

Greenville fireworks rules

Banned inside city limits

Greenville Code Article 8.09 makes it unlawful to sell, possess with intent to use, or discharge fireworks, and applies inside the city limits plus 5,000 feet outside them (except inside another city). Public displays need city council approval on the fire chief's recommendation. The city says fireworks use, sales or storage are not allowed in city limits unless permitted.

Code of Ordinances Art. 8.09, Secs. 8.09.002 and 8.09.003. Source: City of Greenville Code, Article 8.09: Fireworks (eCode360); see also https://greenvilletx.gov/111/Fireworks, checked 2026-10-20.

Greenville's fireworks rules are in Article 8.09 of the city code. Section 8.09.003 makes it unlawful to sell, give away, possess with intent to use, discharge or otherwise set off fireworks of any kind. Section 8.09.002 extends the rule 5,000 feet past the city limits, except where that land is inside another city. The fire marshal can seize illegal fireworks as a public nuisance. Public displays are allowed only with city council approval. The city's own fireworks page says use, sales or storage are not allowed within city limits unless permitted, and lists the Fire Marshal's office at (903) 457-2945 for questions.

Greenville is in Hunt County. Outside the cities, the county can restrict fireworks during drought, and a drought finding can cancel a season. Check https://www.huntcounty.net/ and our Hunt County page at /texas-fireworks-laws/hunt/, plus the state rules at /texas-fireworks-laws/.

Where you can legally shoot

The general rule is private land outside Greenville's city limits and more than 5,000 feet past them, with the owner's permission, when no county drought order or burn ban is in place. That 5,000-foot band catches a lot of people who live just outside town, so measure from the actual city line, not from the edge of the houses. The city's maps page shows a no-fireworks-sale zone that can help. Public parks and lake shores are not legal spots unless the agency that runs them says so.

The easier option is the city show. Greenville has held its Bottle Rocket Bash on the Fourth of July at the SportsPark on Leo Hackney Boulevard. Check the city calendar for next year.
