Fireworks near Forney, TX

Forney is on US 80, not I-30, so getting to our store means heading north first. FM 740 takes you up through Heath to Rockwall, and from there it's a straight shot east on the interstate.

Forney is growing fast, and a lot of new neighborhoods sit right at the edge of the city or its extraterritorial jurisdiction. That matters for fireworks. Forney bans them inside city limits, and the city says the ban reaches 5,000 feet beyond the line.

Driving from Forney

It's about 40 minutes and 28 miles from central Forney. Head north on FM 740 (Pinson Road). It changes names a few times, Bois D'Arc, Laurence Drive and Ridge Road, as it runs about 12 miles through Heath and into Rockwall. Pick up I-30 east at Ridge Road.

From Rockwall it's about 15 miles on I-30, past Fate and Royse City. Take Exit 83 for FM 1565 and follow the frontage road to 5159 I-30 in Caddo Mills. FM 740 is two lanes in spots, so allow extra time when traffic backs up.

Banned inside city limits

Forney's fire code amendment says the possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited, except approved displays. The city says the ban is enforced up to 5,000 feet past city limits.

Forney's fire code amendments, Section 5.04.002 of the city code amending International Fire Code Section 5601.1.3, say the possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited. The exceptions cover approved displays. The city's ETJ page adds that the fireworks ban is regulated up to 5,000 feet from city limits. Forney officials have repeated before recent holidays that fireworks use inside city limits isn't allowed.

Where you can legally shoot

Not in Forney or within 5,000 feet of it. Forney residents who shoot their own generally go to private land farther out in the county, with the owner's permission, and outside every city's limits and enforcement area.

Kaufman County's fireworks page says that when drought conditions exist, the commissioners court can restrict certain fireworks in unincorporated areas.
