Dallas County fireworks rules
Last verified: 2026-10-20. This isn't legal advice. Check your city and county rules. Never use fireworks where they are banned, and follow any county burn ban.
Dallas County is the most built-up county in our area, and the county seat is the City of Dallas. Nearly all of the county is inside a city, so for most residents the city rule is the one that matters.
The City of Dallas says fireworks are illegal in the city and up to 5,000 feet outside city limits, and anyone using them can be fined up to $2,000. Dallas Fire-Rescue says fireworks found will be confiscated and a citation issued. Other cities in Dallas County, such as Garland, Mesquite, Irving, Richardson and Grand Prairie, set their own rules. Check your city's code of ordinances or call the police non-emergency line. Dallas residents can call 311 for non-emergencies.
The Dallas County Fire Marshal's Office covers the unincorporated parts of the county, which are small and scattered. Its phone is (214) 653-7970. The county explains that a burn ban is an emergency declaration recommended by the County Fire Marshal, with input from the Forest Service and Weather Service, and approved through the commissioners court agenda process. Use the Outdoor Burning page and the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map to check status. A burn ban covers outdoor burning. A drought order under Local Government Code 352.051 is the tool that restricts skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins in unincorporated areas.
If you are in unincorporated Dallas County, remember the city 5,000-foot zones, the 600-foot state rule around churches, schools, hospitals and child care centers, and the landowner's permission. The county also requires a permit for each fireworks sales event in its jurisdiction.
The statewide seasons apply in Dallas County. Any county-option season applies only if the Dallas County Commissioners Court approves it by order. We have not confirmed a current order, so check with the fire marshal before assuming one applies.
