Rockwall County fireworks rules

Rockwall County sits just west of Hunt County along I-30, and the county seat is the City of Rockwall. Several cities share the county, so start with your city's rule.

The City of Rockwall Fire Marshal Division says it is unlawful to sell, possess, manufacture, store, handle or use fireworks within city limits, except approved displays permitted by the fire marshal. Its guideline says the restriction reaches 5,000 feet past city limits unless that area is in another city's extraterritorial jurisdiction. If you live in Royse City, Heath, Fate, McLendon-Chisholm or another town, check that city's code of ordinances or call its police non-emergency line. We have not verified those cities' rules.

For unincorporated areas, the county fire marshal's FAQ points residents to the county's burn ban information page and says to contact the Fire Marshal's office with questions. On August 25, 2026 the commissioners court adopted an order prohibiting outdoor burning in all unincorporated areas for up to 90 days, unless rescinded sooner. That order covers outdoor burning. It does not by itself say anything about fireworks, so read any separate fireworks order closely.

The statewide seasons, June 24 to July 4 and December 20 to January 1, apply in Rockwall County. Any county-option season, like Memorial Day, Juneteenth or Texas Independence Day, applies only if the Rockwall County Commissioners Court approves it by order. We have not confirmed any current Rockwall County authorization, so check the commissioners court agenda on the county website or call the fire marshal before assuming a county-option window is open.

In a drought, the court can restrict skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins in unincorporated areas under Local Government Code 352.051. The county's main number is 972-204-7000.

One more thing to keep in mind anywhere in the county: state law still bars lighting fireworks within 600 feet of a church, hospital, school or licensed child care center without written permission, and within 100 feet of a fuel station or a fireworks stand.
