Sparklers are hand-held sticks that throw off a shower of sparks as they burn down. They are often the first thing people reach for, and they are part of almost every celebration. They are also hotter than most people think. The CPSC and the Texas Department of Insurance both warn that sparklers can burn at about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to cause serious burns, and CPSC counts sparklers among the items behind many emergency room visits every year.
So treat them with respect. An adult should be close by. Hold a sparkler at arm's length, away from your face, clothes and hair, and do not wave it near other people. Light one at a time. When it goes out, drop it straight into a bucket of water, because the wire stays hot for a while. Never let young children handle sparklers.
Pick by color if smoke matters. Gold sparklers burn with the least smoke. Colored sparklers get their color from added metals like magnesium, and that puts off more smoke, which shows up in photos and hangs around in a covered patio or under a tent.
Sparklers fit between bigger items in a show, or as a group moment at the end. If you are planning a wedding send-off, our sister business Dallas Sparklers sells wedding sparklers from the same Caddo Mills location.

Gold sparklers. Colored sparklers get their red, green or blue from added metals like magnesium, and those burn with noticeably more smoke. If smoke matters, like indoors, under a tent, for photos or around people who are sensitive to it, stick with gold.
Drop each used sparkler into a bucket of water as soon as it goes out. The wire stays hot after the sparks stop.
